Add the bot to your Discord

Drop the bot into any server you run and your members' chat votes feed straight into the daily Mob pick.

+ Add to Discord

Opens Discord's authorization page in a new tab.

What you need

  • A Discord server you own or have Manage Server permission in.
  • Your members posting $TICKER messages in chat (e.g. $AAPL).

How to add it

  1. Click + Add to Discord above.
  2. Pick the server you want the bot in from the dropdown, then hit Continue.
  3. Leave the requested permissions checked (View Channels and Read Message History - that's all the bot needs) and click Authorize.
  4. Complete the "I'm not a robot" check if Discord asks. Once done, you'll see the bot listed in your server's member list.

Choose which channels it watches

By default, the bot listens in every channel it can see. To restrict it to one channel, use Discord's built-in permissions:

  1. Open Server Settings → Roles and find the role named Mob vs Monkey (Discord auto-creates this when the bot joins).
  2. Switch off the View Channel permission at the role level.
  3. Go to the one channel you do want the bot in, edit that channel's permissions, and grant View Channel to the Mob vs Monkey role there.

That's standard Discord stuff - the bot doesn't need a registration form because Discord's own permissions UI already controls scope.

How voting works

Anyone in a watched channel can post $TICKER (e.g. $AAPL, $NVDA) and the bot will record one vote for that ticker. Rules:

  • One vote per Discord user per day, across every server the bot is in. (You can't boost a ticker by posting in multiple servers.)
  • The first $TICKER in a message wins. If someone types $AAPL $NVDA, only AAPL counts.
  • The ticker has to be in our eligible pool - liquid US-listed equities, no penny stocks. Out-of-pool tickers are silently ignored.
  • Votes close at 1:00 PM Eastern, Monday through Friday. After that, the day's pick is locked.

How to test it

After adding the bot, post $AAPL (or any other liquid ticker) in a channel the bot can see. The bot doesn't reply or react - votes just show up in the leaderboard at mobvsmonkey.lol.

If your vote doesn't appear within ~10 seconds, the most likely causes are: the bot can't see the channel (check permissions), voting is already closed for the day, or you've already voted.

Removing the bot

Server Settings → Members → find the bot → kick. That's it. Members' previous votes stay logged but no new votes will be recorded from your server.
